Senior Biologist (Botany) – Based in San Diego, California

Lead meaningful fieldwork and drive environmental compliance across Southern California

A well-established environmental consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Biologist to support a variety of energy and infrastructure projects across Southern California, particularly in the San Diego region. This hybrid role offers a rewarding balance of fieldwork, team leadership, technical writing, and regulatory support — with a focus on botany, rare plant surveys, and vegetation mapping.

If you enjoy combining scientific rigor with real-world problem-solving, and you’re ready to take a lead role on impactful projects, this opportunity could be a great fit. The role offers competitive pay in the range of $100,000 to $125,000, depending on experience.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead and conduct biological field surveys, including rare plant surveys, vegetation mapping, and habitat assessments
  • Provide biological monitoring and environmental compliance during construction
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, CEQA/NEPA documentation, and permit applications
  • Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to align biological deliverables with project milestones
  • Guide junior staff, oversee field teams, and manage schedules and budgets
  • Support strategy development for environmental permitting and regulatory compliance

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in biology, ecology, botany, or related field
  • 7- 15 years of field biology experience in Southern California, with emphasis in botany
  • Familiarity with CDFW survey protocols, the Jepson Manual, and local flora
  • Experience preparing permits such as Section 404, Section 401, Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreements, and Endangered Species Act documentation

Why This Role Stands Out

The company behind this opportunity is known for its supportive culture, flexible work environment, and commitment to professional development. You’ll be joining a collaborative team that values innovative thinking, celebrates milestones, and regularly gives back to the community. Internal training, mentorship, and a healthy work-life balance are all built into the culture.
