Public Safety Officer I & II, III - Full Time - Days - Parking Enforcement
MLK Community Healthcare pay range: $21.00/hr – $33.00/hr (actual pay based on experience; discuss with recruiter)
Position Summary
Under minimal supervision, performs duties of a Public Safety Officer I, conducting vehicle and foot patrols, patient restraints, incident report writing, public relations, emergency preparedness, door unlocks/locks, guest assistance, access control, and de‑escalation of hostile visitors, employees or patients. The officer will understand the CCTV system and use comprehensive radio communications to respond to calls of service.
Position requires active participation in the mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital, demonstrating behavior consistent with its core values and supporting its strategic plan and quality improvement process.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Conduct vehicle and foot patrol procedures to ensure a safer, more secure environment for employees, physicians, patients, and guests.
- Provide timely responses to calls for service.
- Maintain comprehensive radio communications proficiency.
- Investigate all minor and major facility incidents, including criminal investigations.
- Complete all assigned reports, daily logs, and required forms to ensure timely and complete documentation of security department activity.
- Provide high‑quality professional service to employees, patients, physicians, and guests, ensuring continuous flow of information to the command center, security personnel, and emergency agencies.
- Conduct oneself professionally, consistent with the authority of the job.
- Report safety violations to appropriate leadership or department personnel.
- Assist hospital personnel with disruptive and non‑compliant patient restraints, as requested by medical staff.
- Respond to audible fire alarms within the hospital facility.
- Perform access control at assigned posts.
- Maintain general knowledge of the CCTV system and monitor all surveillance cameras effectively.
- Maintain external relationships with local, state, and federal law‑enforcement agencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by a Public Safety Supervisor or higher.
Position Requirements
- Education – High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Preferred work history – Public safety/security or military experience preferred; training in cultural diversity or sensitivity is an advantage.
- Qualifications/Experience – Valid California guard card required; current CPI certification (instructor or participant) required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire; current AHA Basic Life Support certification required (CPR acceptable for first 60 days); 6 months to 1 year minimum experience in security/public safety preferred; healthcare experience preferred; military police experience a plus; excellent guest relations skills required; computer literacy required;
ability to conduct investigations, interviews, and gather information for report writing; ability to produce detailed reports; strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality; ability to work under pressure and maintain efficiency and composure in sensitive situations. - Special Skills/Knowledge – Demonstrated commitment to a strong service orientation; strong interpersonal and communication skills; knowledge of the John E Reid technique of investigation and interrogation (a plus); understanding of CCTV footage collection, sensitivity, and follow‑up;
Microsoft Office proficiency; typing speed of 50 words per minute or more; ability to establish and maintain cooperative and harmonious working relationships.
