Position Overview

The Mechanic:
Small Engine / Generator Specialist is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a range of generator systems, including gasoline, diesel, and propane-powered units. This includes preventative maintenance, warranty claim documentation, and both shop- and field-based service. The role requires strong troubleshooting skills in both mechanical and electrical systems, with the ability to communicate findings and solutions clearly to customers and team members.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair small engines, including gasoline, diesel, and propane-powered generators.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and servicing on a variety of generator models.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical system issues quickly and accurately.
  • Complete detailed warranty documentation, including service reports and parts usage.
  • Communicate professionally with customers to explain diagnostics and repair options.
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and clean work area.
  • Stay current with manufacturer updates, service bulletins, and technical training.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Experience in small engine repair (generators, mowers, power equipment, or similar).
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for both mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to complete accurate and detailed paperwork for warranty claims.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in varied weather conditions.
Preferred:
  • Manufacturer certifications (Kohler, Generac, or similar).
  • Experience with residential and commercial generator systems.
  • Basic electrical knowledge, including wiring and controls.
Work Schedule
  • Monday–Friday, standard hours; overtime as needed for urgent repairs.

  • Primarily shop-based with occasional road calls.
