Position: Aircraft Mechanic III (0003 CA)

  • Day shift:
    Mon‑Fri; 0700‑1600

Aircraft Mechanic III (Aircraft Mechanic) WG‑8852 equivalent
  • Leads a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled / unscheduled maintenance.
  • Processes the technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported.
  • Capable of performing, supervising, and inspecting the duties of Mechanic Is, IIs and IIIs.
  • Maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components, and engines of complex to extreme difficulty; repairs aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components, and applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and restoring equipment condition and operation.
  • Applies professional technical expertise to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufacturers' manuals.
  • Requires thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair, and the ability to determine functionality of non‑complex electrical systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers is required.
  • Provides technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike, possesses excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule.
  • Makes entries in aircraft logs and records; provides guidance and technical expertise to lower‑level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.
  • Performs installation, adjustment, alignment, and troubleshooting for final operational and functional testing on major aircraft weapon systems, assemblies, and components for the U‑2 aircraft.
  • Performs overhaul and repair of weapon systems, their assemblies, and components, such as airframe, landing gear, power plant, gear boxes, pumps, and hydraulic, pressurization, utility, fuel, oil, pneumatic and flight control systems.
  • Troubleshoots aircraft systems, components, or sub‑assemblies to determine proper operation.
  • Identifies malfunctions and determines corrective action (repair or replacement).
  • Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles major aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components.
  • Connects related systems to newly installed or repaired units and makes adjustments to assure proper operation.
  • Installs, aligns, and functionally and operationally tests the various major and minor mechanical and pneumatic systems on the aircraft during overhaul or modification.
  • Performs engine removal and installation, jacking and leveling, alignment and retraction checks, and other related routine tasks.
  • Effectively performs troubleshooting on a variety of major aircraft systems, assemblies, and components.
  • Determines when systems, assemblies, and components are operating properly or require repair/replacement and specifies the required adjustment and alignment.
  • Effectively repairs, reworks, and replaces components or parts of systems.
  • Effectively performs major overhaul on systems, their assemblies, and components.
  • Performs U‑2 Repair and Reclamation tasks listed in Beale Sup to AFI 21‑101.
Job Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years on platform preferred and/or 3 years in AMIII career field.
  • Authorized to clear Red X primary system.
  • Authorized to accomplish in‑progress inspections (IPI) primary system.
