72 Aircraft Mechanic II
Performs the full range of military tactical aircraft maintenance, including repairs and modifications to aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.
Responsibilities- Maintains and repairs aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
- Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and restore equipment condition and operation.
- Solves moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints or manufacturers' manuals.
- Applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate problems by interpreting technical documentation such as aircraft Technical Manuals, Maintenance Information and Action Messages and all technical guidance provided through government official representatives.
- Requires working knowledge of technical publications.
- Receives technical guidance from supervisor, and may occasionally lead teams through more complex aircraft tasks, making entries in aircraft logs and records.
- Prioritizes workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
- Removes and installs aircraft subsystem assemblies and components such as engines, rotors, transmissions, mechanical flight controls and their components.
- Services and lubricates aircraft and subsystems.
- Safely prepares aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks and services.
- Performs scheduled inspections and assists in performing special inspections.
- Performs limited maintenance operational checks and diagnoses and troubleshoots aircraft systems using special tools and test equipment as required.
- Uses and performs operator maintenance on tools, special tools and aircraft ground support equipment.
- Uses thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts.
- Uses knowledge of electrical theory and of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and shears.
- Participates in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.
- Uses working knowledge of technical publications and the Government STAMIS to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
- Inspects all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by Aircraft Mechanic I.
- Operates Flexible Engine Diagnostic System (FEDS) and holds FAA Powerplant License or has documented five years as a FEDS operator.
- When designated obtains DoD EPA Refrigerant Processing Certificate Section 608 Technician Certification (Universal) or Minimum Type II.
- May be designated as a Foreign Object Elimination/Foreign Object Debris (FOE/FOD) Program Administrator.
- Performs non‑crew member duties as qualified and when required.
- When qualified and assigned for crane operator duties has three years of crane operation experience and complies with OSHA 1926 safety regulations.
- When selected, qualified and trained IAW contact requirements performs aircraft condition evaluations (ACE) inspection duties.
- When required can use Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) for job duties.
- Participates in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.
- Valid up‑to‑date A&P license.
- Two (2) years of aviation maintenance experience.
- Three (3) years of rotary wing aircraft experience.
- Two (2) years on the assigned Mission Design Series.
- All experience within the five (5) most recent years.
- US citizenship required to obtain facility credentials/authorization.
- Must provide own tool set and toolbox, all tools shadowed and etched with PID.
- Strong communication skills; adaptable, diversified, capable of troubleshooting entire aircraft systems.
- Working knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical and associated systems principles.
- Knowledge of quality control, production and supply procedures required to perform job assignments.
- Proficiency with common hand tools and measuring devices such as gauges, torque wrenches, scales, and test/diagnostic equipment related to specific aircraft models.
- Ability to determine when faulty systems or assemblies can be repaired or replaced and the extent of repair required.
- Skill in reading, applying and interpreting technical data.
- Must be able to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
- Frequently lift parts and equipment up to 20 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- Heavy lifting primarily performed using mechanical devices.
- May work in aircraft maintenance hangar or outdoors.
- May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather and rudimentary infrastructure.
- May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
- May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts.
