Telecommunications Systems Technician III Job Description & Duties

This position is a technical specialist responsible for maintaining the public safety communication network. Incumbents must hold a valid FCC certificate or license (listed in the Minimum Qualifications) and must interpret FCC regulations related to LMR and microwave communications.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Performing all technician duties required to ensure uninterrupted operation of public safety communication systems.
  • Applying comprehensive knowledge of MPLS, LSPs, LDP/RSVP‑TE, IPS, VPWS, VPLS, and VPRN to troubleshoot and optimize network performance.
  • Planning, organizing, overseeing, and coordinating the work of other technicians within assigned geographic sectors or microwave areas.
  • Ensuring quality, quantity, and timeliness standards are met; obtaining necessary resources and facilitating communications with individuals, organizations, and partner public safety agencies.

Working Conditions

In Office
:
This role supports day‑to‑day business operations fully from an office location and is not a hybrid telework position.

DMV Pull Program
:
Participation is mandatory. A valid California Driver’s License (CDL) is required. Applicants must provide CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements or restrictions.

The incumbent must reside within a one‑hour response time of headquarters; candidates outside this radius must be willing to relocate.
