Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Maintenance and Operations and Lead Maintenance Technician, the Maintenance Specialist will maintain school buildings and grounds in an orderly, neat, safe, and operable condition.
Essential Job Functions- Familiar with painting, basic electricity, basic carpentry, and basic plumbing.
- Perform tasks to maintain buildings and grounds in safe and operable condition, such as making minor repairs, clearing snow and ice, and related tasks.
- Inspect equipment and facilities, and recommend repair or replacement to supervisor.
- Work with power equipment—including chainsaws, weed eaters, zero‑turn mowers, hand tools, table saws, and drill presses.
- Work safely from ladders, lifts, or building rooftops.
- Maintain motors and other mechanical equipment, ensuring scheduled servicing.
- Able to lift 75 pounds.
- Prepare and maintain records to document work and repairs as requested.
A self‑motivated individual who works without supervision, takes pride in a job well done, works well with diverse personalities, and is versatile enough to pivot from a job in progress to a new emergency. Has working knowledge of tractors, forklifts, skid steers, and building maintenance.
Additional DutiesPerform other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of fundamental tools, materials, practices, maintenance methods, and procedures in carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades.
- Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor and coordinate work with others.
- Ability to describe orally or in writing maintenance or repair problems as needed.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others contacted in the course of work.
- Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment.
- Wear appropriate safety gear.
Frequent travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands- Ability to work at heights and in crawl spaces.
- Typical risks associated with using tools of the trade.
- Occasional strenuous physical work.
- Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
- High School Diploma.
- Successful experience in building and grounds maintenance and repair.
- Motor Vehicle Operator’s license or ability to provide own transportation.
Preference will be given to applicants familiar with HVACR repairs, especially those with EPA certification.
