Helicopter Mechanic – City of San Diego
Join the City of San Diego’s aviation team as a skilled helicopter mechanic. You will maintain and repair Bell 212/412 and Sikorsky UH‑60/S70 helicopters to keep our city’s air operations safe and reliable.
Responsibilities- Inspect, repair, overhaul, and service aircraft components per FAA directives and manufacturer maintenance manuals.
- Perform daily airframe, engine, and specialized equipment inspections, including rescue hoists, firefighting tanks, hover fill systems, and FLIR.
- Coordinate parts ordering, track component service life limits, and maintain accurate maintenance records using computerized record keeping.
- Maintain calibration of all tools and test equipment and return aircraft to service after repairs.
- Attend manufacturer training, maintenance managers’ conferences, and perform other duties as assigned.
- Five years full‑time experience maintaining and repairing Bell 212/412 and/or Sikorsky UH-60/S70 helicopters.
- Three years of full‑time helicopter field maintenance and two years as an aircraft mechanic charged with completing major and minor repairs to return aircraft to service.
- Valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic license.
- Valid California Class C Driver License at time of hire.
- California Class B Driver License with Hazardous Materials and Tank Endorsements within six months of hire.
- FAA Inspection Authorization certificate.
- Bell 212/412 initial maintenance training.
- Sikorsky UH-60 or S-70 initial maintenance training or military equivalent.
- Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6T-3DF initial maintenance training.
- General Electric T700/701 initial maintenance training or military equivalent.
- UTAS/Goodrich initial hoist maintenance training.
- Avionics installation and repair experience.
- SDCERS retirement system enrollment.
- Drug and alcohol testing per California State Law.
