Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Supervisor of Building Trades, this position performs skilled carpentry work, maintains order, and supervises the conduct of incarcerated people, protecting and maintaining the safety of persons and property.
Key Responsibilities- Constructs and repairs various types of buildings, sheds, scaffolds, forms, frames, fences, and other structures.
- Leads and works with a small crew of incarcerated workers to build cupboards, lockers, shelves, doors, window frames, and perform structural repairs and modifications.
- Inspects carpentry jobs to ensure safety rules are observed; draws working sketches and prepares cost estimates of building materials and equipment for new structures and repair work.
- Supervises the maintenance of tools and equipment; maintains job records and prepares reports.
- Requisition s materials and equipment necessary to complete work orders, reads schematics, plans, and blueprints, and provides guidance to incarcerated people.
- Ensures materials and equipment are prepared and ready for scheduled work; contacts outside vendors for price quotes; prepares FORM CDC 954 and keeps simple work records.
- Eligible for Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position.
