Join the County of Riverside Transportation & Land Management Agency (TLMA) as a Truck Mechanic. This full‑time position (4/10 schedule) is located in Riverside and focuses on the repair and maintenance of medium and heavy‑duty gasoline and diesel trucks and trailers.
Responsibilities- Inspect and diagnose mechanical failures and defects in a variety of heavy trucks.
- Rebuild or repair engines, transmissions, differentials, clutches, axles, steering gears, carburetors, cooling systems and other mechanical and electrical assemblies.
- Perform tune‑ups on carburetion, fuel injection, and ignition systems.
- Replace and adjust air, hydraulic and vacuum brakes, starters, and generators.
- Repair smaller automotive equipment when required; rough weld; maintain time and material records.
- Maintain vehicle records in accordance with DOT standards.
- Use preventative maintenance software such as Asset Works or equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized heavy‑duty truck mechanic apprenticeship program, or four years of experience in repair and overhaul of heavy diesel and gasoline powered vehicles. Trade courses may be substituted.
- Valid California Class B Driver’s License with tanker endorsement.
- Experience with hydraulic, air brake, clutch, axle, steering gear, suspension, carburetor, fuel injection, cooling, air conditioning and electrical systems.
- Mechanical experience with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, CAT‑ET, CUMMINS In‑Site, Bendix software, or equivalent.
- Basic Inspection of Terminals (BIT) program knowledge and/or welding/fabrication skills are desirable.
- Ability to supply own basic tools.
- Knowledge of diagnostics equipment and shop manuals.
- Ability to follow written and oral directions and work safely.
- Willingness to complete DOT safety‑sensitive drug/alcohol screening and background checks.
