The Job
The Department of Aging and Adult Services/Office of the Public Guardian is recruiting for Social Service Practitioners (SSPs) who provide professional social work services including diagnosis, assessment, intervention, and case management support to aging and adult individuals with complex health, psychological, or economic problems. Work requires investigating and/or supporting cases involving neglect, abuse, emotional or behavioral problems, physical/mental disabilities, or other health conditions.
Travel and field work, including home visits, are a routine part of these assignments.

- Social Service Practitioner II: $61,089 – $88,171 annually
- Social Service Practitioner III: $65,728 – $93,787 annually
Candidates available for the following assignments are encouraged to apply and may receive additional compensation as specified.
Bilingual Positions- Applicants fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Tagalog, Spanish, and/or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged to apply. Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills may be required to receive additional compensation.
- Make sure to indicate a willingness to work alternate schedules, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
- Shift: Work schedule may require availability for after-hours referrals, night duty, and weekend shifts.
- Travel:
Incumbents travel throughout the County and must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver license, a clean driving record, and proof of automobile liability insurance. Transportation may be provided, with mileage reimbursement available. - Physical:
Employees visit clients in their homes and other settings to complete risk and safety assessments. Incumbents must be able to visually assess allegations of abuse and the client’s environment as mandated by the State of California. - Pre-Employment Process:
Applicants selected for these positions must successfully pass a background check which includes fingerprinting and verification of employment history and education. - Sponsorship:
San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
- Option A: A Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
- Option B: A Master’s degree in Human Services, Psychology, Counseling with an emphasis in gerontology, marriage, family, or child counseling, or a closely related field AND either 500 hours of supervised clinical internship OR one (1) year of casework experience equivalent to a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County.
- Option C: A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (BSW) from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education AND one (1) year of casework experience equivalent to a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County.
- Option D:
Bachelor’s degree in gerontology, behavioral science, psychology, sociology, social/human services, anthropology, cultural and gender studies, or human development AND two (2) years of casework experience equivalent to a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County. - Candidates in Final Year of Master’s Program:
Applications will be accepted from candidates who are within 120 days of completing a qualifying Master’s degree provided they meet the minimum requirements for experience at the time of application. Job offers may be made contingent upon degree completion; verification of qualifications will be required prior to hire.
