Senior Retirement Benefits Counselor – Associate Governmental Program Analyst
Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) – San Bernardino Regional Office, 650 East Hospitality Lane, Suite 330, San Bernardino, CA 92408.
Salary: $6,031.00 – $7,547.00 per month (minimum salary for new to state candidates).
Location: Hybrid – up to two days remote, three days onsite per week.
Job SummaryProvide in‑person and virtual assistance to active and retired members by conducting presentations, meeting customers individually regarding retirement and health benefits, and applying the Public Employee Retirement Law (PERL), the Public Employees' Medical and Hospital Care Act (PEMHCA), and new legislation and policy initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver customized customer service for active and retired members in a high‑volume setting.
- Conduct presentations and individual consultations on retirement and health benefits.
- Apply PERL, PEMHCA, and related public employee laws and policy initiatives to answer customer inquiries.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of legislative and regulatory changes affecting member benefits.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve complex member benefit questions.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in public employee benefits, customer service, or related field.
- Experience working in a high‑volume customer service environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver sensitive information tactfully and professionally.
- Experience conducting presentations to groups of 25 or more people.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, changing environment.
- Excellent communication skills and capability to engage with individuals at all levels of leadership.
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and dependability in all workplace activities.
