About the Position

The County of Riverside’s Temporary Assignment Program seeks a Temporary Social Services Assistant to support the Department of Public Social Services for multiple locations throughout Riverside County. Applications will be reviewed on Monday, October 6, 2025.

Examples of Essential Duties
  • Make home visits to assess client family environment, determine potential or imminent risk, provide assistance, gather data from interviews, and document findings.
  • Review case records, formulate basic service plans, and assist in the delivery of social service plans (e.g., resource referrals, training in work skills and parenting).
  • Assist clients with application forms for county programs and secure needed services; advocate for clients in securing services.
  • Provide counseling, home management and basic health advice, assist clients in developing parenting and job skills, and support clients dealing with youth or medical issues.
  • Act as liaison between professional staff and clients, as well as between county departments and community resources.
  • Arrange transportation for clients to attend required services; transport clients in accordance with California safety regulations.
  • Supervise and support youth while awaiting placement; document and provide feedback on visitation quality.
  • Write reports on client status, searches for missing parents/guardians, and maintain electronic records in the centralized database.
  • Provide interpretation for non‑English speaking clients when applicable.
Minimum Qualifications

Option I:
Six months as a Community Services Assistant in any Riverside County department.

Option II:
One year experience performing client‑directed services in a social service, healthcare, mental health, or non‑county agency.

Option III:
Completion of 15 semester or 24 quarter units in an accredited college or university with coursework in psychology, sociology, social welfare, or a related field.

All Options

Knowledge of basic public social service programs, public assistance policies, laws, regulations, current issues in the field, and cultural attitudes toward community services.

Ability to work effectively with a variety of agencies, interview and evaluate clients, implement basic social service plans, interpret agency programs, and interact with diverse cultures and socio‑economic backgrounds.
