SALARY INFORMATION

Driver: $3,089 - $3,943 approximate monthly* / $17.82 - $22.75 approximate hourly*

This position is in the UPEC General bargaining unit. Please refer to the applicable bargaining unit labor agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) for potential future salary increases.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) partners with the community to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of Shasta County residents. HHSA is organized into four branches:
Behavioral Health & Social Services, Public Health, Economic Mobility, and a centralized Administration Services. HHSA promotes optimal health for all. The frail, the abused, the mentally ill, and those without resources look to HHSA for services and resources to meet their basic needs, and to protect their health and safety.

Adult Services focuses on services to support people eighteen and older. Adult mental health services include outpatient mental health care, 24-hour crisis stabilization services for people at risk of hospitalization, 24-hour crisis line, social rehabilitation residential services, long-term placement services and referrals to local non-profit organizations that provide additional services. This branch also provides Adult Protective Services to follow-up on elder abuse reports.

In-Home Supportive Services help those who need assistance with daily activities in order to remain safely in their own homes, and the Public Authority keeps a registry that helps In-Home Supportive Services recipients find a screened caregiver to provide those services. The Public Guardian helps citizens who are unable to manage their personal and financial affairs and may require guardianship or conservatorship.

Mental Health Services Act administration is also housed in the Adult Services Branch.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Under supervision, to provide transportation and to perform other duties as assigned. May be used in a variety of departments, including the Health and Human Services Agency.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Ideal candidate for Driver will be an individual who loves to drive, is flexible with their schedule. The driver will be able to demonstrate compassion, understanding, and patience at all times. This individual should have experience working with people, especially those with mental health issues, physical issues, memory deficits and/or behavioral problems. At times, there is the possibility the driver would be gone two or three days at a time with very short notice.

DUTIES
  • Provides safe, reliable, and courteous transportation service to clients; operates and maintains assigned vehicle(s); and maintains vehicle and customer records.
  • Operates and maintains transportation vehicles with a focus on safety and customer courtesy, performs daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, performs minor cleaning and maintenance tasks on the vehicles when necessary, fuels the vehicles, ensures that periodic scheduled vehicle maintenance and repairs are completed and reported.
  • Prepares and documents trip reports, prepares accident and incident reports as necessary, assists passengers in and out of the vehicle, provides safety briefing to passengers, and performs other duties as assigned.
  • May provide transportation to mental health consumers to and from County facilities, local emergency rooms, out-of-area hospitals, and local contracted facilities; provides round-trip transportation to the Public Guardian conservatees from out of town to attend court hearings; maintains a travel log; reports to the Public Guardian regarding the behavior of conservatees; helps inventory, pack, and move the belongings of conservatees from residence to facilities or storage;

    provides transportation to conservatees for personal needs; and shopping for conservatees.
KNOWLEDGE OF
  • Basic problems related to alcoholism and drug addiction; basic social and psychological problems common to emotionally disturbed, mentally ill, or physically handicapped persons; and geographic area and public service resources.
ABILITY TO
