Position: Supervising Social Service Practitioner - WEEKEND/EVENING/NIGHT(4/10 FLEX SCHEDULE)

Position Overview

Supervising Social Service Practitioner (SSSP) – This role leads a unit of social workers and support staff in delivering child welfare services in a fast paced 24/7 operation (Initial Response Operations). The position will be based at various campuses including Highland, Child and Adult Abuse Hotline (CAAHL), and After-hours Response Center (ARC).

Salary & Benefits

Annual Salary: $ – $ (depending on qualifications). Salary increases: 3% effective February 2026; step advancements: bi‑annual ~2.5%.

Special Shift Availability

Due to the 24/7 operation, shifts may require weekend/evening/night availability. Differentials are available for all qualified shifts and vary based on time/day of week. Flex schedule options are:

  • Evening Shift Assignment – SUN‑WED: 1:30 PM – 12:00 AM; WED‑SAT: 1:30 PM – 12:00 AM
  • Night Shift Assignment – SUN‑WED: 10:00 PM – 8:00 AM; WED‑SAT: 10:00 PM – 8:00 AM
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct a unit of social workers and support staff in child welfare services.
  • Oversee after‑hours placement social workers and staff providing direct supervision of minors (Highland Campus).
  • Manage work product of a unit of social workers responsible for assessing child and adult abuse reports at the central call center and generating referrals requiring investigation (CAAHL).
  • Ensure timely and complete investigation of reports of child abuse after hours (ARC). Team with other programs to support safety and placement needs of children at imminent risk of abuse and/or neglect.
Compensation Additions

Additional compensation may be available:
Bilingual Compensation, Evening Differential, Night Shift Differential, After Hours Supervisor Differential (Child Abuse Hotline), Weekend Day Differential (Child Abuse Hotline).

Conditions of Employment Travel

Travel throughout the County is required. A valid California Class C driver license, automobile liability insurance, and a clean driving record are required.

Availability

Assignments require weekend AND evening or night availability. One weekend shift (Saturday or Sunday) is included in the standard shift schedule.

Sponsorship

San Bernardino County will not consider candidates who require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

Education & Experience

Education: Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from a Council on Social Work Education accredited school OR a Master’s degree in Human Services, Psychology, Counseling with an emphasis in marriage, family, child counseling, or a closely related field.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience equivalent to a journey-level Social Service Practitioner in San Bernardino County, performing complex social work assignments, comprehensive diagnostic assessments, in-depth clinical intervention, and treatment plans for a government social work agency. Experience as a Social Worker II or Social Service Practitioner I is not considered qualifying. Candidates with qualifying experience in a government child welfare agency are highly preferred.

The ideal candidate will have a strong customer service focus while performing in a lead or supervisory role. Completion of a supervisory development program is also desirable.
