Overview

Turning Space into a Transportation Layer for Earth

Eras of humanity can often be defined by a dominant transportation mode - horse drawn chariots, ocean going boats, or aircraft. These were spurred by a small group of people rigorously focused on building technology to achieve faster access to more of the world. We seek to usher in a new era of humanity defined by universal access to the whole globe free of borders and the presence of a routine way from space to Earth.

To do this, we are building highly maneuverable re-entry vehicles that can loiter in orbit before precision landing back on Earth.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Software Engineer (Dev Ops) at Inversion, you will have an instrumental impact on the functionality and performance of our next-generation reentry vehicles. You will own key internal software development workflows and assist with the development and deployment of internal tools and critical services. Your impact will also include the selection, definition, creation, configuration, administration, and training of the Dev Ops processes involving multiple teams.

The result of this essential flow will be the demonstration of flight software applications: executing on the world’s first reentry vehicle designed for turning space into a transportation layer for Earth. You will be a key member of the Processing Core team, reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, Processing Core.

Key Responsibilities

This role is all-encompassing, and includes the complete lifecycle of the vehicle’s software including:

  • Develop and own the group’s Dev Ops procedures
  • Assist with automation of developer workflows
  • Assist in integrating tests, including HIL (hardware in the loop) and HOOTL/SIL (software in the loop) testing, integration testing, and unit testing
  • Assist with the growth and development of the software organization, including conducting interviews and mentoring/onboarding other engineers and interns
Required Qualifications
  • 5
-12 years of professional Dev Ops experience
  • Strong scripting and tooling skills:
    Python, Bash, etc.
  • Experience with common Dev Ops tools such as Ansible, Terraform/Open Tofu, AWS, etc.
  • Direct experience standing up new CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Git, Gitlab, Bamboo, Jenkins, etc.
  • Familiarity working in a Linux environment
  • Willing to learn new skills and step outside your job’s role and your comfort zone
  • Position may require occasional extended work hours and/or weekend work
  • Our office headquarters is located in Playa Vista, CA, and this position requires you to work onsite
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity deploying to both local and cloud environments with compliance requirements
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or virtual machines (Proxmox, VMWare ESXI, Xen Server, etc.)
  • Experience working with Bazel, CMake, or similar. Extra points if you have experience with systems programming languages (C/C++, Rust, etc) and compilers
  • Prior experience working in startups and small independent teams
