Maintenance Worker Series - Unionville Maintenance Facility

What You’ll Do
  • Maintain state highway systems: filling roadway joints, patching potholes, flagging traffic, setting up signs, cleaning ditches, and related tasks.
  • Maintain and repair highway facilities: repairing signs and guardrails, cleaning curbs and gutters, painting buildings, and servicing equipment.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment: transport employees, operate dump and aerial boom trucks, plow snow, spread ice control materials, mow right‑of‑way, and use auger, trencher, backhoe, forklift, and other machinery.
  • Repair bridge decks and drains; clean bridge bents/caps at heights.
  • Install and maintain signs: structural and large signs, inspect truss signs, pour concrete footings, weld and cut steel sign posts, and maintain overlay or break‑away signs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED/HiSET.
  • Valid Driver's License. A passing grade on the written portion of the commercial driver's license (CDL) exam is required before the hire date; the driving portion with tanker endorsement (no air‑brake restrictions, interstate status) must be passed within 60 days of hire.
  • Successful completion of a work simulation exam and a medical‑physical examination.
Special Working Conditions
  • Requires significant physical stamina and endurance, including moving materials by hand, operating hand tools, and performing stationary flagging.
  • Outdoor work involving exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and undesirable environmental conditions such as heavy traffic, heavy equipment, or hazardous chemicals.
  • May require overtime, nighttime work, and operating vehicles for snow plowing and ice control.
