About The Position

The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies. The Riverside County Department of Waste Resources is seeking a Fleet Services Technician who will be based at the Moreno Valley Headquarters and will travel to various sites throughout Riverside County, including Blythe.

The Fleet Services Technician will perform a wide range of fleet services administrative tasks in support of the Fleet Services Department, including fuel system program coordination, repair and maintenance support, vehicle accident repair processing, and general vehicle operations support. Responsibilities include consolidating daily fuel tank readings from all department fueling sites, reconciling fuel data with computer and dispenser records, and monitoring underground storage tanks for potential leaks.

The selected candidate will also coordinate fuel system repairs, oversee maintenance of dispensing equipment, and determine when outside contractors are needed.

Additionally, the Fleet Services Technician provides technical assistance with minor equipment repairs, including installing GPS devices, repairing cameras, supporting fire suppression system repairs, coordinating vehicle glass replacements, and performing special projects or other Fleet Services related work as assigned.

Competitive candidates will have experience with Asset Works Fleet Management or a similar system, proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and ideally service writer experience, particularly in coordinating repairs, communicating with vendors, and documenting service requests.

The Department of Waste Resources serves the County's solid waste disposal needs by providing for efficient and effective landfilling of County non-hazardous waste, protecting the environment, and promoting recycling in order to ensure a safe and healthy community for current and future generations.

Examples of Essential Duties
  • Performs fuel system program coordination duties including consolidating the daily fuel tank readings from all department fueling sites.
  • Reconciling fuel readings with computer disbursement and dispenser readings.
  • Monitoring underground storage tanks for leaks through use of fuel reconciliation data, recommending pressure testing following exhaustion of other possibilities.
  • Rectifying any discrepancies between daily tank stick measurements, fuel dispenser meter readings, and data captured by the Fuel Force Computer System.
  • Coordinates fuel system repair including repair of all fuel dispensing equipment, recommending use of outside contractors when appropriate.
  • Repair of computer hardware for fuel controllers; use of fuel system maintenance logs at each site; insuring periodic inspection requirements are done in a timely manner and that any problem raised by such inspections is resolved and full compliance achieved.
  • Coordinates fleet vehicle accident repair by evaluating and recommending to supervisor the best location to handle repairs; obtaining accident repair estimates including taking vehicles to body shops; reviewing estimates for completeness and technical accuracy.
  • Assembling accident review package to include accident record, estimates and repair recommendation for review by County Safety Committee.
  • Oversees compliance with safety regulations by reviewing Fleet Services facilities for compliance with appropriate federal, state and local requirements; providing appropriate documentation when required; assisting in bringing facilities into compliance; developing and presenting on-site safety training to Fleet Services personnel.
  • Assists supervisors with maintenance training by developing and presenting on-site training regarding new maintenance procedures or to upgrade their proficiency or qualifications involving on-going procedures.
  • Provides warranty/specialized parts support by assisting Fleet Services Parts personnel in obtaining unusual parts as required; coordinating warranty repair of fleet vehicles with respective garages and local vendors, insuring that all warranty work and recalls are accomplished; entering data in computer and reviewing printouts; determining the use and re-use of parts from salvaged vehicles.
  • Provides vehicle operations support by assisting Fleet Services Garages in the recovery/towing of vehicles; providing backup support to vehicle dispatch function; assisting in processing of new and auction vehicles.
  • Performs special projects or other Fleet Services related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from high school or possession of a Certificate of Proficiency issued by the California State Board of Education, or attainment of a satisfactory score on a G.E.D. test.
