Location: California

Job Title: CT Valley Area Superintendent / CALTRANS Maintenance Area Superintendent

Salary: $7,306.00 – $9,068.00 per month (New to State candidates will be paid at the minimum salary of the classification)

Responsibilities
  • Provide general supervision and oversight of all maintenance supervisors, crews, and activities within the assigned area.
  • Direct and coordinate District Field Maintenance and Special Crews, ensuring compliance with district, departmental, state, and federal safety policies.
  • Assign work, give direction, and maintain discipline among subordinate crew supervisors.
  • Assist subordinate supervisors with implementation of work plans and schedules, and with meeting deadlines.
  • Handle disciplinary issues promptly and develop estimates for regular, special, and minor improvement work.
  • Ensure maintenance activities and projects remain within funding requirements.
  • Identify and submit plans for Major Maintenance and Day Labor projects.
  • Verify accurate recording of time, overtime worked, equipment and material usage in the Integrated Maintenance Management System (IMMS).
  • Maintain compliance with departmental policies among subordinate staff.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid and unrestricted Class C California Driver’s License.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in supervising field maintenance crews and coordinating maintenance activities.
  • Ability to work daytime shifts, occasional evenings and nights, and travel to locations with extreme weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and experience with the Integrated Maintenance Management System (IMMS) is preferred.
Desired Qualifications
  • Valid Class A or Class B commercial driver’s license with endorsements P (Passenger/Bus), H (Hazardous Materials), and N (Tank Vehicle).
  • Qualified applicator certificate for pesticides issued by Cal‑EPA.
  • Experience in preparing project estimates and budget management.
Working Conditions

The position is primarily office‑based but requires frequent travel to outdoor sites in extreme weather, including temperatures up to 120 °F and as low as –15 °F, with wind, rain, sleet, and snow. Standard working days are typically 8‑hour days during winter and may change to 10‑hour days during summer; overtime is expected during storms, emergencies, or special projects.
