Supervisor Ramp - LAX at Southwest Airlines

Overview

Ramp Supervisors lead a team of Ramp Agents to ensure on-time arrivals and departures, observe and guide performance, ensure safety and compliance procedures, and communicate important updates. Ramp Supervisors are strong communicators who work as part of a team in a dynamic, safe environment.

Responsibilities
  • Actively coordinate with all departments to maintain the station’s on-time performance, employee morale, and customer satisfaction
  • Monitor and guide ground support performance to ensure requirements are met
  • Ensure all equipment including GSE is maintained and available for the operation
  • Oversee day-to-day airport operations to create a safe, secure, and legally compliant service-conscious environment; meet or exceed performance goals through effective decision making; monitor and assign gate control for flights; assign and track Agents for training compliance
  • Maintain a safe working environment and institute programs to reduce accidents and injuries
  • Coordinate with all departments to maintain the Station’s on-time performance; report status updates to leaders and employees
  • Drive performance processes by forecasting operational situations that may impact the operation; monitor and achieve results against key metrics; hold responsible parties accountable for results; review and ensure accurate delay coding
  • Work with staff planning to build bids aligned with hourly goals
  • Perform daily administrative duties (building/closing shift bids, daily work assignments, payroll, attendance reports); monitor staffing and overtime
  • Assure proper administration of labor contracts or agreements, emphasizing minimal labor disputes
  • May perform other duties as directed by leaders
Qualifications
  • Fully functioning, broad knowledge of airline operations
  • Experience with applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements and their applications
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for moving people or goods by air and related costs/benefits
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and evaluating customer satisfaction
  • Knowledge of security operations and safeguarding people, data, property, and institutions
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to listen, understand, and communicate ideas in writing and speaking
  • Ability to recognize and address performance and safety concerns in a timely manner
Education

Experience
  • Broad knowledge of Airline Operations
Licensing/Certification
  • Must obtain a SIDA badge and meet local airport requirements
  • Must possess a current valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Must obtain GSC qualification and comply with DOT drug and alcohol testing program
  • May be required to obtain a Customs Seal and meet requirements to work on international flights
Physical Abilities
  • Ability to work from a limited space workstation for extended periods
  • Ability to communicate in English to meet job demands
  • Ability to work with potential exposure to noise, vibrations, and other conditions
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather
  • Proficiency with computers and office tools
  • Ability to lift/move items up to 70 pounds regularly; occasional lifting of 40–50 pounds on raised surfaces
  • Ability to climb, bend, kneel, crawl, and stoop as required

  • Maintain a well-groomed appearance per company guidelines
  • U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the United States
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Adhere to company attendance standards
  • Pay amount does not guarantee employment
