Caltrans Equipment Operator II (will consider a Caltrans Equipment Operator I). Department of Transportation. JC-503284. Salary $4,883.00 – $6,127.00 per month. Final Filing Date 1/11/2026.
Responsibilities- Operate special storm water equipment under direction of the Maintenance Storm Water Supervisor.
- Perform storm water maintenance activities in the District: clean and maintain drains, sweep highways, mitigate erosion.
- Act as both laborer and operator as required.
- Work in varied conditions: heat up to 120°F, cold to –15°F, winter storms, summer thunderstorms; may work confined spaces.
- May be scheduled for night shift November–April and overtime.
- Valid California Class A CDL with Tank Vehicle (N) endorsement and current DMV medical.
- Pass the Caltrans Equipment Operator II/I exam and be on the state examination list.
- Current resident of California and meet classification eligibility (lateral transfer, reinstatement, SROA, surplus, training).
- Drug screening required.
- Must provide official transcripts or copies of degrees for education qualifications.
Location:
1250 Spruce St., Bishop, Inyo County. 4/10 work schedule, contingent schedule changes. Night shift schedule November–April. Work outdoors in extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, sleet, snow; work confined spaces; may work weekends and holidays.
