Joby Aviation Pilot And Project Manager

Located in Northern California, the team at Joby Aviation is driven by our goal of creating an affordable, all-electric air transportation system. Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality.

We're looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate pilot and project manager to join our commercial operations team with a focus on flying for our certificated 14 CFR Part 135 entity as well as driving the development, planning, and execution of air taxi operations in domestic and international markets.

You must be a strategic thinker, able to represent Joby's vision to key in-market commercial, political, and regulatory stakeholders. You must also be tactical in execution, capable of completing a range of tasks, from drafting operational manuals to coordinating with cross‑functional stakeholders to drive the execution of go‑to‑market plans.

Your prior aviation operations experience will serve as the bedrock from which you will build knowledge of eVTOL operations to become a sought‑after subject matter expert. You will offer a credible and informed perspective on— and will drive execution of— the work streams required to successfully launch a commercial eVTOL air taxi service. Eventually, you may qualify to fly our eVTOL aircraft.

This in‑person role is located at Joby's offices in Marina, California.

Responsibilities
  • 14 CFR Part 135 line pilot operating Joby's conventionally powered fixed‑wing aircraft
  • Learn the systems and operation of Joby's eVTOL aircraft to support operational definitions, development of commercial requirements, and potential training as an eVTOL pilot
  • Support all aspects of safe and successful eVTOL flight demonstrations including: aircraft certificate of airworthiness, frequency / spectrum allocation, flight test, pilot and engineer staffing plan, concept of operations, logistics, insurance matters, and other supporting requirements
  • Collaborate with numerous Joby teams including product, business development, infrastructure, government operations, and policy teams to develop and maintain go‑to‑market timelines for the launch of commercial air taxi operations
  • Represent Joby's air‑taxi concept of flight operations to internal and external stakeholders through the application of aviation regulations and flight operations knowledge and experience
  • Drive the identification, progress tracking, and completion of objectives that enable the launch of air taxi operations; identifying blockers, dependencies, and sources of execution risk
  • Develop a deep understanding of commercial aviation air and ground operations in major US and international markets, heliports, and airports, and leverage this perspective to support realizing Joby's eVTOL concept of operations
Required
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Meet experience requirements under 14 CFR Part 135.243 (c)
  • FAA Commercial pilot certificate (single engine airplane land)
  • At least 1,200 hours of flight time as a pilot, including 500 hours of cross country flight time, 100 hours of night flight time, and 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument time at least 50 hours of which were in actual flight
  • Hold an airplane instrument rating
  • Current first or second class medical certificate (or the ability to attain one prior to employment)
  • Impeccable safety record / FAA enforcement record
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple simultaneous and interrelated projects that support a program's objectives
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficiency in common workplace software:
Microsoft and/or Google office tools, including working with spreadsheets
  • Work full time, on‑site in Marina, CA
Desired
  • At least 3,000 hours pilot in command flight…
