Medical Assistant SummaryPerforms selected medical assistant and clerical duties that assist in care for clinic patients following established standards, practices, and competency. Works collaboratively with other clinic staff to solve practice‑related problems. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of the patient/customer’s status. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the population served in the department.
RequiredCertifications
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Health career Association (NHA) with one year of experience upon hire.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) upon hire.
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT) upon hire.
- Registered Nurse (RN) – Board of Nursing; active license in the state of practice upon hire.
- Perform general nursing care to patients.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
- Coordinate patient care activities for the clinic.
- Prepare equipment and assist provider during procedures, treatments, examinations, and testing of patients.
- Observe, record, and report patient's condition and reactions to drugs and treatments to provider.
- Oversee appointment scheduling and ensure preferences are given to patients in emergency situations, maintaining timely flow of patients.
- Greet patients and prepare them for physical examination. Screen patients for appropriate information, including obtaining the health history, taking vitals, and conducting a nursing assessment. Document obtained information in the patient chart.
- Instruct patient in collection of samples and tests.
- Respond to patient phone calls in a timely manner with appropriate input from the physician.
- Educate patients and families about diagnostic process, medications, nutrition, and maintenance of health and wellness.
- Suggest solutions to patient care crisis problems and complaints.
- Maintain exam rooms with necessary supplies and materials, ensuring cleanliness.
- Prepare list of medical supplies needed.
- Ensure appropriate labeling of pathology specimens according to lab protocol as needed. Perform quality control and maintain records on all lab testing.
The individual must be able to work the hours specified. To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily, including having visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds.
