Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Head Coach

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of 60 college credit hours required.
  • Ability to work under a team concept with appropriate communication skills, good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with students, teachers, and administrators.
  • Knowledge and ability in the sport being coached.
  • Certified in First Aid/CPR/AED.

Actual workdays may vary in accordance with District needs and administrative assignments and may include occasional weekend/non-school day/holiday work.)

ESSENTIAL

JOB DUTIES:

  • Full responsibility for the overall supervision of his/her program.
  • Know, understand, implement and adhere to the rules and regulations of Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA). Attend mandatory rules clinic and coaches’ meetings.
  • Verify each athlete’s academic and medical eligibility.
  • Supervise and conduct practices and contests in safe manner.
  • Manage uniforms, equipment, and facilities in a responsible manner. Notify the Director of Activities/Athletics of annual budgetary needs.
  • Work toward building and teaching good sportsmanship, cooperative work ethic and responsibility.
  • Communicate with the Director of Activities/Athletics, administrators, assistant coach(es), players and parents. Develop good public relations with parents, school, booster clubs and community.
  • Direct injured athletes to the trainer and report injuries to the nurse.
  • Provide team rules and practice schedules to athletes, parents and the Director of Activities/Athletics.
  • Teach relevant skills, tactics and techniques.
  • Monitor and enhance performance by providing encouragement and constructive feedback.
  • Assess strengths and weaknesses in a participant’s performance and identify areas for further development.
  • Adapt to the needs and interests of the group or individual participant.
  • Communicate instructions and commands using clear, simple language.
  • Demonstrate an activity by breaking the task down into a sequence.
  • Encourage participants to gain and develop skills, knowledge, and techniques.
  • Ensure participants train and perform to a high standard of health and safety at all times.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of fitness, injury, sports psychology, nutrition, and sports science.
  • Develop training programs.
  • Sports promotion/development.
  • Work to a high legal and ethical standard at all times, particularly in relation to issues such as child safeguarding and health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain records of participant’s performance.
  • Coordinate participant’s attendance at meetings and other sports events.
  • Coordinate appropriate competitions for participants with Activities Director.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.

OTHER

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Other duties as assigned. This does not preclude the assignment of additional or supplemental duties. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment as needed to reflect such duties.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Duties performed typically in district settings to include the cafeteria, gym, recreational areas and other assigned areas.
  • Physical demands can include but are not limited to:
    Exerts up to 40 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects including equipment such as audio-visual.
  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and other limited physical activities are required.
  • Mental demands can include but are not limited to:
    Comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, and synthesizing.
  • Ability to collaborate with peers, positive attitude and flexible with change.
