Cabin Design Engineer

Overview

Johnson Service Group is looking for a contract Cabin Design Engineer to work in Mobile, AL.

The Design Engineer is responsible for developing solutions to a variety of complex engineering problems, requiring judgment and ingenuity with Airbus product lines. General responsibilities include A350, A320, A330 module customization. Specific activities include product development support, existing product customization, qualification and certification documentation review, continued airworthiness evaluation, cabin installation definition/drawings, and component supplier interface/oversight.

• Deliver fully qualified cabin equipment designs that meet the technical, weight, schedule, quality and cost targets of the Program.
• Manage General Requirements for Equipment & System Suppliers (GRESS) deliverables, maintain the action item log and pursue action holders to close actions.
• Prepare and lead Initial Technical Coordination Meetings (ITCM), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR) and major milestone meetings with Airline Customers, Suppliers and stakeholders.
• Define and validate interfaces to the aircraft, including development of customized module installation requirements and validation of both structural and system interfaces.
• Guide and perform qualification, verification and validation of cabin equipment designs, including release of the Declaration of Design Performance (DDP) and ensure compliance with Program milestones.
• Initiate, monitor and manage Supplier Improvements and Transformation Projects to drive performance and ensure supplier compliance to requirements and processes.

• Minimum BS degree in engineering or related field.
• 6+ years of experience within the aviation industry with 3 years of relevant experience in aircraft cabin engineering and development process, and knowledge of associated design, certification and qualification requirements.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced and dynamic environment.
• Ability to understand and mentor principles within assigned discipline.
• Authorized to work in the US.

• Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment.
• Hearing: able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and hear production floor sounds.
• Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
• Equipment Operation: able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
• Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
• Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
• Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
• Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.
• Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
• Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
• Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.
• Walking: able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
