Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Controls Engineer to support and advance the electrical, automation, and process-control systems within a highly automated manufacturing facility.

This is a hands-on engineering role that combines advanced troubleshooting, system optimization, and project leadership. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining reliable plant operations, improving equipment performance, and leading electrical, controls, automation, and capital improvement projects from concept through commissioning and startup.

The ideal candidate brings strong industrial controls expertise, including PLC programming, DCS/SCADA systems, instrumentation, variable frequency drives (VFDs), industrial networking, and electrical power distribution. This role is well suited for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, collaborating across departments, and delivering practical solutions that improve plant performance.

What You'll Do:

  • PLC Programming & Automation:
Program, troubleshoot, modify, and optimize PLC-based control systems, including Allen-Bradley Control Logix and Siemens S7/TIA Portal.
  • Process Control Systems:
Support and maintain DCS, SCADA, and HMI systems used to monitor and control manufacturing processes.
  • Troubleshooting & Reliability:
Diagnose complex electrical, instrumentation, controls, and automation issues; perform root-cause analysis; and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and uptime.
  • Instrumentation & Process Controls:
Support industrial instrumentation, control valves, process loops, interlocks, permissives, alarms, and sequence controls.
  • Industrial Networks & Integration:
Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication networks and protocols, including Ether Net/IP, Modbus, Profibus, Profinet, and OPC. Support PLC-to-PLC and PLC-to-DCS communications, remote I/O, gateways, and third-party equipment integration.
  • Electrical Power Systems:
Support and troubleshoot motor control centers (MCCs), VFDs, transformers, switch gear, substations, and facility electrical distribution systems.
  • Electrical Safety & Compliance:
Support compliance with applicable electrical codes, standards, and safety requirements, including NEC, NFPA 70E, and NFPA 70B.
  • Capital Project Leadership:
Lead electrical, automation, and controls projects from concept development and cost estimating through engineering design, equipment selection, installation, commissioning, and startup.
  • Engineering Documentation:
Develop and maintain P&IDs, electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, control narratives, and other engineering documentation.
  • Vendor & Contractor Coordination:
Coordinate equipment vendors, contractors, and external technical resources to support project execution and system improvements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Partner with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to improve process performance, equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and overall plant uptime.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 5-10+ years of experience in industrial electrical systems, controls, automation, instrumentation, or process control.
  • Strong hands-on experience programming, troubleshooting, and modifying industrial PLC systems.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley Control Logix and/or Siemens S7/TIA Portal.
  • Experience supporting DCS, SCADA/HMI platforms, and industrial instrumentation.
  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical distribution systems, including MCCs, VFDs, transformers, and switch gear.
  • Ability to interpret and develop electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and P&IDs.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Proven ability to manage projects and collaborate effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, vendors, and contractors.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • AutoCAD experience preferred.

Additional Experience That’s a Plus:

  • Yokogawa DCS and Mitsubishi PLC systems.
  • Aspen Historian or similar process historian platforms.
  • Easy Power or comparable electrical power system analysis software.
  • Medium-voltage electrical systems and protective relaying.
  • Arc-flash analysis, short-circuit studies, and electrical system coordination.
