Position: Radiologic Technologist - MRI (PRN) - University Hospital

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of related digital image management tasks as necessary. ie exceptions, annotations; maintains competency by demonstrating a complete working knowledge of all imaging equipment and supplies, including but not limited to 3T and/or 1.5T MRI, all coils associated with MRI exams, power injector, MRI patient monitoring equipment, post processing software; demonstrates proper positioning for all MRI exams; appropriately labels patient position to reflect correct orientation of images;

adjusts scanning factors and coils according to patient and body part being examined; adjusts scanning parameters for “conditional” implants according to manufacturer literature, peer-reviewed data, and product labeling; adheres to all MRI safety and screening policies for patients, visitors, and healthcare workers and reports unsafe practices and conditions; performs patient assessment and screening within the scope of practice; reviews patient’s prior imaging and history to ensure appropriate exam is ordered, consulting the Radiologist or ordering practitioner when needed;

researches surgical histories and researches devices and implants; demonstrates understanding of the hazards associated with MRI and considers these hazards when performing all functions; uses proper padding and ensures patient positioning or devices do not create a “loop” to reduce potential for burns; uses methods to alleviate claustrophobia or anxiety for patients; recognizes emergency situations and initiates code procedures as needed, following safe MRI procedures;

maintains aseptic or sterile technique, as appropriate, when performing MRI image-guided invasive procedures; directly assists the Radiologist/physician during MRI image-guided invasive procedures; prepares patient for intravenous (IV) injections: starting the IV and maintaining access; administers IV contrast per approved protocols; ensures outpatients are provided required medication guide for IV contrast and educates patient if required; educates healthcare workers who may accompany patients regarding MRI safety;

reviews CPOE and written orders checking for special instructions from physicians and consults with physicians as needed; reviews images and consults with radiologist when pathology seen may require protocol revision; accurately critiques images to determine diagnostic quality and adjusts factors if imaging is to be repeated; adheres to established protocols, QA guidelines, and regulatory requirements; performs or assists with the performance of accreditation requirements for the American College of Radiology (ACR);

pleasantly greets patient, confirming identity using two identifiers and introducing oneself; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team; completely explains examination procedure to the patient and family, if present; performs visual preventive safety inspections of all equipment used and communicates problems to supervisor/assistant director/director; maintains necessary inventory of supplies, rotating stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminating outdated items;

maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the department; completes all aspects of a patient’s exam, including ensuring images are available for physician review on PACS in a timely manner, charging procedures and supplies, documenting contrast usage, and documenting history or additional notes; protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and procedures; maintains professional and technical…
