Job Description
The Special Workforce Application Technician I represents Harbison Walker International as a technical liaison accountable for contributing to the overall business performance by performing refractory installation field trials and providing material installation support. The Technician grows refractory knowledge to better educate customers and peers on proper installation techniques for Harbison Walker International products.
Job Duties- Support the customer's use of refractory products through direct, hands‑on installation of products and provide material installation support.
- Observe trials from installation through postmortem to prevent untimely removal of installed refractory materials.
- Observe and promote safety and 5’S standards; comply with established facility safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations; maintain a safe and clean working environment.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Computer operation skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to safely use brick saw and bricklaying equipment to lay brick.
- Working knowledge of refractory lined units.
- Ability to operate a jib crane and ensure proper rigging of the load.
- Ability to safely operate a forklift.
- Ability to safely operate various hand and electrical tools.
- Ability to read, understand and work in conformity with work orders, as directed.
- Ability to detect and correct unsafe or hazardous conditions of equipment and work environment.
- Safe operation and maintenance of equipment (refractory pumps, gunite machines, etc. a plus).
- Bilingual (a plus).
- 0 to 2 years of refractory installation knowledge or equivalent construction or manufacturing experience.
- Physical activity:
More than two thirds of the time standing, speaking or hearing; one third to two thirds of the time walking, using hands and fingers or reaching with arms and hands; less than one third of the time sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling or smelling. - Lifting:
Up to 50 pounds more than two thirds of the time and up to 100 pounds less than one third of the time. - Vision:
Accurate distance and peripheral vision and depth perception, including the ability to adjust focus. - Environment:
Exposed to fumes, airborne particles, vibrations or extreme heat for one third to two thirds of the time; less than one third of the time in an office setting, high places, at risk of electrical shock or radiation, exposed to outdoor weather conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, or working near explosives. - Noise:
Working in very loud conditions (over 85 decibels).
