Responsibilities
  • Provide medical management of newborn infants in a 95‑bed Level III neonatal intensive care unit, primarily those with emergent, acute and chronic illness, under the review and/or supervision of a neonatologist or designated M.D.
  • Perform delivery‑room resuscitation of newborns including endotracheal intubation, positive‑pressure ventilation, calculation and/or administration of resuscitation medication, insertion of peripheral and central vascular lines, placement of needle or tube for evacuation of body spaces (relief), pneumothoraces, pericardial fluid or air, peritoneal fluid or air, or pleural fluid.
  • Manage medical problems of neonates and all common medical problems of pre‑ and post‑operative neonates; manage mechanical ventilation in neonates; perform diagnostic procedures; conduct discharge preparation for neonates; provide care to normal newborn infants; administer injections and dispense medication which may include controlled substances.
  • Participate in clinical research; serve as preceptor to clinical nurse practitioner students and residents in neonatal management; collect data for neonatal population database; provide parent education.
  • Maintain regular and prompt attendance; work schedule as defined including nights, weekends and overtime as required; perform related duties as required.

* Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.*

Qualifications
  • BS degree in nursing from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by USA Health and the University of South Alabama.
  • Completion of an approved nurse‑practitioner training program.
  • Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current Alabama RN license or current Multi‑State RN License in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama.
