Responsibilities- Practice family-centered nursing according to policies and the Nurse Practice Act.
- Serve as Charge Nurse when assigned; supervise, plan, evaluate, and coordinate patient care provided by licensed and non-licensed staff.
- Perform CPR and basic life support according to American Heart Association standards; administer medications, blood products, and controlled substances.
- Utilize the nursing process to assess patients, plan care, identify outcomes, implement interventions, and evaluate results.
- Perform therapeutic procedures, assist with diagnostic procedures, and manage IVs.
- Provide patient education and utilize a personal computer to access the Clinical Information System.
- Communicate and use appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Document and maintain accurate patient care records; complete required forms such as pain assessment tools, discharge documentation, and medication administration records.
- Adhere to infection control, safety standards, and compliance requirements; serve as a preceptor for new employees and nursing students.
- Address unit status changes, patient-related issues, and quality management matters in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and Administrator.
- Assist with shift duty assignments, verify emergency equipment, and ensure accurate narcotic counts.
- Participate in performance improvement activities and maintain current knowledge of unit policies and procedures.
- Current Alabama RN license or current Multi-State RN license in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact for Alabama.
