Position: Clinical Research Registered Nurse (RN)-OB/GYN-Maternal & Fetal-Strada Patient Care Center

Responsibilities
  • Participates in and coordinates the planning, development, and implementation of clinical protocols in accordance with research parameters set out by the principal investigator; oversees the planning, scheduling, and implementation of the day-to-day clinical activities and procedures, ensuring efficient workflow and adequate care and treatment of research subjects; plans and carries out programs for the recruitment, screening, enrollment and retention of clinical research subjects and/or volunteers;

    instructs subjects on treatment methods and protocols; establishes appropriate data collection systems and procedures, according to pre-established research protocols; responsible for providing highly skilled nursing care; supervises and/or performs research related procedures; conducts advanced patient evaluations on patients who are participating in research studies and provides preliminary patient diagnoses; assists the physicians in the management of outpatients in the clinic;

    assists in obtaining appropriate pre and post labs for treatment and evaluation of patients; interprets tests results; develops and directs educational programs for patients and health care providers regarding illness, therapy and home care on an outpatient basis; maintains familiarity with current methods of treating patients by both state of the art investigational means; interacts with research sponsors and other agencies in the procurement of medications for research patients;

    interacts with pharmaceutical companies and other agencies in the procurement of medications for indigent patients; interacts with physicians, patients and staff in a professional manner; maintains inventories of research drugs and supplies; coordinates patient care activities and assists physicians with patient assessment when needed; dispenses medications and administers medications according to research protocol; performs various routine tests; maintains accurate patient records for patients on research study;

    talks to patients as needed; reviews incoming lab reports and other diagnostic reports and advises physician of any abnormalities as needed; schedules appointment for patients with other physicians and departments, as requested by physician; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and a current Alabama RN license or current Multi-State RN License in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama, two years of professional nursing experience, and licensure with the state of Alabama as a registered nurse. Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS, Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) through Society of Clinical Research Associates certification are preferred.

    BSN and prior research experience are highly preferred.
