Assistant Archaeologist (full-time, temporary)

St. Mary's College of Maryland, Historic St. Mary's City, 70 miles southeast of Washington, D.C.; project site in the Rappahannock River valley near Warsaw, Virginia.
Base pay range: $16.00/hr – $18.00/hr pay varies with qualifications and experience.

Assist with fieldwork and laboratory processing of archaeological materials for the Rappahannock Indigenous Cultural Landscape survey. The role requires field school completion, and ability to work outdoors in variable weather, wooded and open environments. Some travel and overnight stays are required.
Responsibilities- Conduct onsite excavation and survey activities.
- Document artifacts, records, and environmental data.
- Process and catalog recovered materials in the laboratory.
- Assist in data entry and database maintenance.
- Support field and lab teams with logistical tasks.
- B.A. in history, anthropology, archaeology, or related field with completed archaeology field school.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability and willingness to travel and stay overnight.
- Background check required.
- Combination of education and experience may be considered.
