Heating, Ventilation And Air-Conditioning Mechanic:
The Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning Mechanic installs, services and repairs environmental-control systems in residences, department stores, office buildings, and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipe fitting and structural layout.
- Mount compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications.
- Fabricate, assemble and install ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
- Install evaporator units in chassis or in air-duct system, and cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape using cutting and bending equipment and tools.
- Cut and thread pipe, join tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solder joints using torch.
- Form complete circuit for refrigerant and install expansion and discharge valves in circuit.
- Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels; connect control panels to power source.
- Install air and water filters in completed installation; inject small amounts of refrigerant to test systems and add Freon gas to achieve prescribed operating pressure.
- Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation; test joints and connections for gas leaks using gauges or soap-and-water solution.
- Wrap pipes in insulation batting and secure them in place with cement or wire bands; replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units.
- Install, repair and service air conditioners, ranging from fifteen to twenty tons cooling capacity in warehouses and small factory buildings.
- Maintain compliance with certifications and training requirements as specified by the contract; progress and completion tracked and reported to the COR.
- All personnel designated to work on, operate, maintain, and repair HVAC equipment (including boilers and heating systems) shall possess one or more of the following certifications and maintain competencies. The Contractor is responsible for all costs associated with obtaining this training. All training shall be tracked and reported to the COR annually.
- NA T.E. Core Service plus any service (K.A.T.E) Specially listed under the service category.
- HVAC Excellence Professional certifications:
Light Commercial Air Conditioning, Gas Heat, and Green Awareness Certification. - UA Star HVACR Mastery Certification.
NOTE: Incumbent and new hired employees who operate, work on, maintain and repair HVAC equipment (including boilers and heating systems) will be required to become certified. The contractor shall develop a training plan for each employee and submit to the COR within the first 30 days and shall be certified or completed within the first 6 months of the contract start date or employment date.
Progress reports shall be provided to the COR monthly.
