Position SummaryThe Instrumentation, Controls & Electronics (IC&E) Technician is responsible for the inspection, testing, calibration, troubleshooting, commissioning, and operational readiness of mobile gas turbine generator packages.
This hands-on position supports newly manufactured, refurbished, and serviced equipment by ensuring instrumentation, electrical, controls, and auxiliary systems are properly installed, tested, and ready for deployment. The IC&E Technician works closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Field Service teams to support safe, reliable, and high-quality equipment delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Perform pre-commissioning inspections, point-to-point checks, calibration, loop checks, functional testing, startup/shutdown activities, load testing, and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of mobile gas turbine generator packages.
- Commission, test, and troubleshoot instrumentation, electrical, controls, and auxiliary systems, including lubrication oil, fuel/gas, starting, hydraulic, generator, and associated systems.
- Calibrate and verify pressure, temperature, level, flow, RTDs, thermocouples, transmitters, switches, and other industrial instrumentation.
- Perform instrument loop checks and verify PLC/controller I/O, control logic, ranges, scaling, alarm setpoints, trips, interlocks, permissives, and shutdown functions.
- Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, communication networks, controllers, and instrumentation systems.
- Configure and commission VFDs and troubleshoot AC/DC electrical systems, including 480 VAC systems, control power, motors, starters, contractors, breakers, relays, batteries, and chargers.
- Perform electrical testing, including insulation resistance, phase-to-phase, phase-to-ground, and phase rotation checks.
- Support troubleshooting of generator controls, excitation systems, protection systems, and associated electrical equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, termination drawings, P&IDs, engineering drawings, specifications, and equipment manuals.
- Identify, document, troubleshoot, and resolve commissioning, installation, equipment, and quality issues prior to equipment release.
- Maintain accurate records of commissioning activities, calibration results, testing, inspections, deficiencies, repairs, and corrective actions.
- Support quality investigations, NCRs, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action activities as required.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Field Service teams to resolve technical issues and improve equipment readiness.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including LOTO and applicable electrical and industrial safety standards.
- Safely perform work around energized electrical equipment, rotating machinery, hydraulic systems, pressurized gas systems, and operating gas turbines.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working with industrial electrical, instrumentation, controls, automation, or related systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel drawings, termination drawings, and P&IDs.
- Working knowledge of industrial instrumentation, including RTDs, thermocouples, pressure transmitters, differential pressure transmitters, level transmitters, switches, and related devices.
- Ability to systematically troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, and control system issues.
- Proficiency using digital multimeters, insulation resistance testers (Megger), and other electrical and diagnostic test equipment.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and applicable maintenance or work-order systems.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately document test results, deficiencies, repairs, and commissioning activities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Must provide own tools and toolbox (sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, drills, hammer, etc)
- Technical degree, certificate, or formal training in instrumentation, electrical technology, electronics, controls, industrial automation, or a related field preferred.
