Position Description

The Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of the Pacific, Arthur

A. Dugoni School of Dentistry invites applicants to apply for a part-time, teacher‑clinician position (0.5 to 2 days per week, 40 weeks per year). The role involves teaching pre‑doctoral pediatric dentistry, teaching the dental auxiliary utilization program, and supporting community outreach activities. Faculty members also participate in scholarly and service activities as needed.

Workload

Workload varies quarter to quarter and is adjusted based on faculty and department needs. Emphasis is on teaching, with participation in scholarship and service encouraged. Some travel to San Francisco may be required for calibration, faculty development, or other needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Current Knowledge of:

  • Current edition of AAPD Pediatric Dentistry Reference
  • Manual dental school educational processes
  • Restorative and preventive information and technique

Education:

  • DDS/DMD or international equivalent; degree earned from an ADA‑accredited school preferred
  • Certificate or Master’s degree indicating successful completion of an ADA‑accredited specialty training program in pediatric dentistry (required)
  • Valid CPR certification
Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Board certification by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry desirable

Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively with a diverse population of patients, students, staff, faculty and administration
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Work effectively as a team with administrators, faculty, staff, and students
  • Maintain confidentiality of information
  • Demonstrate professional judgment in all situations
  • Desire to teach students in all phases of the curriculum using a humanistic educational model
  • Desire for personal growth and development as an educator
  • Involvement or desire to be involved in organized dentistry, especially pediatric dentistry
  • Involvement or desire to participate in community outreach activities
  • Desire to participate in professional education beyond the school at local, state, regional, national, and international levels
Physical Requirements

Faculty must possess the motor skills to perform diagnostic maneuvers, laboratory tests, dental preparations, and basic life support including CPR. They must transfer and position patients with disabilities, restrain children lacking motor control, and operate dental handpieces and instruments as described.

Hiring Range

$65 per hour. Factors considered include scope and responsibilities, candidate qualifications, internal equity, and market considerations.

Special Instructions
