Part‑Time Instructor of Art – Modesto Junior College

We welcome applications for a Part‑Time Instructor of Art in the School of Arts, Performance, & the Humanities. The role supports a diverse student body and emphasizes equitable teaching and learning.

Job Overview
  • Location: Modesto Junior College
  • Salary: Hourly range $78.15 – $124.94 (2025‑2026 schedule)
  • Benefits: Not eligible for benefits; workers’ compensation only.
  • Schedule: Part‑time; may include evening and Saturday teaching, and online instruction.
Scope of Assignment

The successful candidate will join an art department dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion, providing support and resources that help all students succeed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in fine arts, art, or art history OR Bachelor’s in the same plus a Master’s in humanities or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of diverse student backgrounds and sensitivity to varying needs.
  • Ability to meet physical and mental standards (mobility, dexterity, lifting up to 25 lbs, visual and hearing requirements).
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience teaching basic drawing, ceramics, 3‑D foundation design, sculpture.
  • Familiarity with Open Educational Resources.
  • Ability to develop innovative curriculum that promotes student equity.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and addressing equity in the classroom.
  • Commitment to professional growth and shared governance.
Responsibilities
  • Teach lower‑division college courses in art (ceramics, design, drawing, painting, sculpture, appreciation of art).
  • Advance equitable student learning through exemplary instruction.
  • Communicate course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance expectations.
  • Prepare, grade, and return assignments and exams; inform students of progress.
  • Maintain attendance and academic records per policy.
  • Develop, implement, and assess student‑learning outcomes; use results for improvement.
  • Engage in data inquiry and self‑assessment to support student success and equity.
  • Participate in professional development (mandatory FLEX requirements).
  • Maintain current subject‑matter knowledge and effective teaching strategies.
  • Uphold professional conduct and ethical standards.
