Part‑Time Instructor of Anthropology – Columbia College
Salary Range: Hourly $78.15 – $124.94;
Doctorate $92.09 – $128.22

Scope of Assignment: Under the general supervision of the Division Dean, the successful applicant will provide lecture and/or laboratory instruction in accordance with course descriptions and outlines. Responsibilities include evaluating student progress, advising students on educational matters, and performing related duties as assigned. The candidate will join an Anthropology department committed to responsive curriculum and increased student equity.
Responsibilities:
- Teach lower‑division college courses in anthropology.
- Advance equitable student learning through exemplary instruction aligned with course outlines.
- Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance expectations.
- Prepare and grade assignments and examinations, and communicate student progress.
- Maintain attendance, scholastic, and other records and submit them per published policies.
- Develop, implement, and assess student‑learning outcomes; use results to improve instruction.
- Engage in data inquiry and self‑assessment to support student success, persistence, and equity.
- Participate in professional development activities required for mandatory FLEX requirements.
- Maintain current knowledge of the subject matter and effective teaching strategies for diverse learners.
- Maintain professional standards of conduct and ethics.
Qualifications:
- Master’s in anthropology or archaeology, or a Bachelor’s in one of those fields combined with a Master’s in sociology, biological sciences, forensic sciences, genetics, paleontology, or an equivalent.
- Knowledge of and ability to assess the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Sensitivity to the needs, problems, and challenges associated with a culturally diverse student population.

Physical & Mental Standards:
- Mobility: sit or stand for long periods, move around an office, and reach above/below desk level.
- Dexterity: fine manipulation to operate a keyboard and handle paperwork.
- Lifting: occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Visual: adequate vision for reading files, documents, and computer screens.
- Hearing/Talking: normal speech and telephone communication.
- Emotional/Psychological: decision-making, concentration, frequent public contact, and deadline adherence.
