Salary and Benefits

The Hourly Range: $78.15 to $124.94. Doctorate Range: $92.09 to $128.22. Part Time Faculty office Hours are paid at a flat rate of $30 per hour.

Benefits:
Not Eligible for Benefits. With the exception of Workers’ Compensation coverage, not eligible to participate in the District’s benefit programs.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s in dance, physical education with a dance emphasis, or theatre with dance emphasis OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in physical education, any life science, physiology, theatre arts, kinesiology, humanities, performing arts or music. Knowledge of and ability to appraise the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Sensitivity to the needs, problems and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population.

Physical and Mental Standards
  • Mobility: ability to sit or stand for long periods, move about an office, and reach above and below desk level.
  • Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle papers, write and take notes.
  • Lifting: occasional lifting of papers, files, equipment and material weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Visual Requirements: close vision sufficient to read files, documents, and computer screens; ability to adjust focus frequently.
  • Hearing/Talking: ability to hear normal speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and speak in person.
  • Emotional/Psychological Factors: ability to make decisions and concentrate; frequent public contact; frequent deadlines and time-limited assignments.

Desirable Qualifications

DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS

  • Experience teaching dance technique courses in more than one genre (modern, jazz, ballet, hip hop) at the collegiate level.
  • Experience as a modern and jazz choreographer working with collegiate students, upholding professional standards in concert dance.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty and staff related to costume, lighting, and technical design.
  • Experience advising community college dance majors with understanding of transfer and audition processes within the CSU/UC systems.
  • Experience with outreach and recruitment and using Open Educational Resources to improve access.
  • Ability to develop curriculum or services that stress innovation and student equity.
  • Enthusiasm for learning; commitment to supportive relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Participation in professional growth and staying current in subject area and state initiatives.
  • Ability to operate effectively in change and ambiguity; plan and organize programs to enhance student success.
  • Willingness to participate in shared governance and collaborate; strong interpersonal communication; community engagement.
Desirable Professional Characteristics

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience teaching in modern, ballet, jazz, and hip hop at the community college level.
  • Current knowledge of the Dance discipline, trends, research, and pedagogy; familiarity with assessment for student success at course, program, and degree levels.
