Position Information
Position:
Part‑Time Instructor of Art – School of Arts, Performance, & Humanities – Modesto Junior College.
Salary: $78.15 to $124.94 per hour (Doctorate Range $92.09 to $128.22).
Hours:
Part‑time faculty office hours are paid at a flat rate of $30 per hour.
Not eligible to participate in the District’s benefit programs, except for Workers’ Compensation coverage.
Scope of AssignmentThe successful candidate will join an art department committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The candidate will share these commitments and work to reduce barriers for students by providing the support and resources needed to succeed.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s in Fine Arts, Art, or Art History, or Bachelor’s in any of the above plus a Master’s in Humanities or equivalent.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to appreciate diverse academic backgrounds of community college students.
- Physical requirements:
ability to sit/stand for long periods, moderate lifting (up to 25 lbs), and adequate vision and hearing for teaching duties. - Reasonable accommodation may be made for individuals with disabilities.
- Experience teaching art courses such as drawing, ceramics, 3‑D design, and sculpture.
- Knowledge and willingness to utilize Open Educational Resources.
- Ability to develop innovative curriculum that promotes student equity.
- Enthusiasm for the learning process and commitment to supportive relationships with students and colleagues.
- Participation in professional growth and current subject area initiatives.
- Teaching experience in a variety of art courses with emphasis on ceramics, design, drawing, painting, sculpture, and art appreciation at the community college level.
- Current knowledge of emerging trends and pedagogies in art education.
- Understanding of assessment processes for student success and equity.
- Experience working with minority students and addressing equity issues in the classroom.
- Teach lower‑division college art courses (ceramics, design, drawing, painting, sculpture, and appreciation of art).
- Advance equitable student learning through exemplary instruction.
- Inform students of course requirements and evaluation procedures.
- Prepare and grade assignments, exams, and maintain academic progress records.
- Develop, implement, and assess student‑learning outcomes for courses and programs.
- Engage in data inquiry and self‑assessment to develop strategies for student success, persistence, and equity.
- Participate in professional development and maintain current knowledge in the subject area.
- Maintain standards of professional conduct and ethics.
