Critical Power Field Technician (UPS Engineer)

Pearce (over 2,500 team members nationwide) delivers engineering, maintenance, repair, and repowering solutions for wireless and wireline telecom, commercial and utility‑scale solar and wind projects, EV charging stations, large‑scale power generation, critical power and energy storage assets.

Your Impact

Pearce Services / Unified Power is seeking a Critical Power Field Technician (UPS Field Engineer) in Modesto, CA and surrounding areas, to support customers with onsite preventive, corrective, and restorative maintenance of critical power systems (UPS, DC systems, inverters, PDUs, STS, and standalone reserve battery technologies).

Core Responsibilities
  • Install electrical equipment such as small rack‑mounted UPS equipment and various sizes of batteries.
  • Maintain battery cabinets and racks, including bypass and monitoring equipment, DC systems and other electrical equipment.
  • Perform lifecycle‑driven remedial services: failure analysis, component replacement and repairs, battery string replacements and installations.
  • Build customer relationships, provide excellent service and upsell products.
  • Respond to field troubleshooting calls and achieve satisfactory resolution.
  • Respond quickly to critical situations.
  • Teach and mentor crew members on proper techniques for site work, troubleshooting, repair, and analyzing site data.
  • Isolate basic hardware, software, and interface malfunctions using test equipment on multiple products and technologies.
  • Specific duties may vary or evolve based on business and client needs.
Core Experience
  • Prior military training in electronics or avionics (A School, AIT, etc.) preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years in a third‑party critical power field service or technical support role with demonstrated progression, or minimum five (5) years in an OEM service environment in the critical power space.
  • Good understanding of AC/DC electrical principles.
  • Knowledge of test equipment operation, including multi‑meters and battery test equipment.
  • Reading and interpreting electronics schematics; troubleshooting to component level.
  • Experience enforcing compliance with FCC/FAA/EPA/OSHA regulations and standards.
  • Outstanding work ethic, punctual, trustworthy, reliable – leadership mindset.
  • Good judgment; timely and sound decision making in fast‑paced changing priorities.
Physical/Work Environment
  • Compliance with OSHA and applicable DOT standards; safety priority.
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record (if company vehicle used); pre‑employment drug screen required.
  • Ability to lift or move up to 100 pounds for short durations; kneel or crouch periodically; stand for extended periods.
  • Travel for multiple days with per diem as required by projects.
  • Coordinate multiple tasks while maintaining 100% safety awareness.
  • Lift heavy objects and stretch above head as needed.
Compensation and Benefits

Base Pay Range: $35 USD – $55 USD per hour.

In addition to wages, employees may be eligible for performance and referral bonuses, production incentives, tool/equipment and fuel stipends, company vehicle, per diem or other applicable compensation.
