Hours:
30 hours per week, 12 months per year;
Monday through Friday 8:00am – 2:00pm (Some evening and weekend hours may be required)
Appointments are hired at the first step of the range. The second step is paid after the first year of satisfactory service with subsequent steps annually thereafter to a maximum sixth step.
Job DescriptionUnder general supervision, performs technical financial and accounting duties related to the evaluation, processing, preparation, maintenance and verification of payroll and related records; prepares and maintains technical payroll reports and statements; and performs related work as assigned.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsThis is the first technical level class of the Payroll Support Series within the Yosemite Community College District (YCCD). Positions perform technical duties in support of District payroll and related functions. Incumbents use technical knowledge of specialized subject areas to make decisions and complete assignments. Incumbents are typically assigned to the Controller’s Office. This class is distinguished from the higher-level Payroll Specialist, which handles more complex payroll-related functions.
SupervisionReceived
Work under the general supervision of the Payroll Manager, often working alone on routine or regular assignments and checking with a supervisor on non-routine assignments.
Minimum QualificationsKnowledge of: methods, practices and procedures pertaining to basic technical payroll accounting and fiscally related record management systems; automated payroll record management; financial and payroll related report preparation; legal mandates, policies and guidelines pertaining to payroll; financial record keeping and reporting; mathematics; filing and record keeping; modern office procedures and equipment including computers.
Ability to: perform moderately complex technical payroll functions; monitor and maintain fiscal and financial files; perform basic payroll audits and analyses; calculate and verify figures; operate computers and payroll software applications; process and maintain accounts receivable records; prepare payroll and related reports; communicate effectively; establish working relationships.
Education and ExperiencePattern I:
Two years equivalent to an Accounting Technician at YCCD.

Pattern II:
Associate’s degree in general accounting, finance or a closely related field, plus two years of financial and/or accounting clerical work with extensive responsibility for computer-assisted accounting and/or payroll record management systems.

Example of Duties- Performs technical payroll functions including assembling, tabulating, calculating, verifying, and filing payroll data.
- Assists with processing less complex payroll claims; reviews pay claims for accuracy and policy adherence; verifies fund source, rate of pay, hours, and retirement status; enters data into the payroll system.
- Processes wage assignments; verifies employee status; communicates with external agencies on wage assignments.
- Receives and processes verification of employment; provides information on positions and wages.
- Manages employer Revolving Cash Fund payments and submits warrant requests to Accounts Payable.
- Assists with revision and implementation of record management systems and procedures.
- Prepares technical payroll account analyses; interprets routine legal mandates and policies; provides information to county, state and federal agencies.
- Assists staff in resolving routine payroll problems and performs other related duties as assigned.
- Typing/keyboarding certificate (45 wpm) may be required depending on assignment.
- California driver's license may be required depending on assignment.
- Mobility to sit for long periods, move about an office; occasional standing; reach above/below desk level.
