Audit & Assurance Supervisor, CPA
Atherton & Associates, LLP is seeking an experienced, self‑motivated, client‑focused individual to join our team as Assurance Supervisor in Modesto, California. The firm, established over 50 years ago, offers a wide range of services including tax planning, estate planning, accounting, auditing, and general business advisory.
Job Type: Full‑time
Location: Modesto, California
Roles & Responsibilities- Lead multiple assurance engagements by overseeing planning, organization, and execution.
- Build and maintain client relationships through direct contact at appropriate levels.
- Take responsibility for service quality, thoroughness, and accuracy; proactively work with clients to gather data and follow up on open items.
- Delegate work effectively to ensure deadlines are met.
- Assess and interpret implications for the client; understand client’s tolerance for risk.
- Stay current on regulatory and industry issues and share applicable information with others.
- Seek business development opportunities through new or existing contacts.
- Effectively supervise, train, mentor, and develop associates and senior associates.
- Provide training to co‑workers and associates on technical areas of expertise as needed.
- Proactively communicate work/project status with engagement team and client in a direct and respectful manner.
- Create and maintain a continuing professional education schedule for department staff.
- Attend recruiting events to build the practice.
- Maintain flexibility to work weekends and extended hours during peak busy seasons.

- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business Administration or Accounting (finance, economics, mathematics acceptable)
- CPA license in California helpful but not required
- Minimum of 4 years relevant experience
- Effective supervisory and delegation experience with staff in audit engagements
- Ability to lead, coach, and motivate staff
- Superior client service with ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
- Strong technology skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Pro System fx Engagement and Caseware a plus
- Ability to build relationships across lines of business to ensure client service excellence
- Ability to lead, prioritize, thrive, and adapt in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment
- Excellent project management, analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Effective time management and adherence to deadlines with accuracy
