Grant Writer (Hybrid) – Sierra Vista Child & Family Services

Overview

The Grant Writer researches, writes, coordinates grant proposals, manages reporting, and maintains a grant calendar for Sierra Vista Child & Family Services. This role requires nonprofit fundraising experience, strong writing and communication skills, and a passion for supporting programs that benefit children, youth, and families. The Grant Writer advances Sierra Vista’s community transformation vision by securing funding that directly impacts behavioral health, access to quality services, and family stability in under-resourced communities.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct research to identify grant opportunities from government agencies, private foundations, and corporate donors.
  • Monitor grant databases and other resources to identify new funding opportunities on an ongoing basis.
  • Write compelling grant proposals that effectively communicate the organization’s mission, programs, and goals.
  • Tailor each proposal to meet the specific requirements of each grant opportunity.
  • Collaborate with program staff and leadership to gather necessary information for proposals, including data, budgets, and program objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a grant calendar to track deadlines for applications, reports, and renewals.
  • Ensure timely submission of grant proposals and supporting documents.
  • Prepare and submit grant reports to funders, ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements.
  • Work closely with Program Directors and Executives to create a comprehensive grant strategy that aligns with the organization’s overall vision.
  • Assist in developing funding strategies for new and existing programs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related field; or a minimum of five years of grant writing experience.
  • Minimum of three years of successful grant writing for nonprofit organizations, preferably within the youth and family services sector.
  • Proven success in securing grants from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an emphasis on clarity and persuasiveness.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with grant management software or databases.
  • Valid California driver’s license is required if the role includes regular driving duties.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal grant application processes preferred.
  • Knowledge of fundraising trends and nonprofit sector best practices preferred.
Travel Requirements

Must be able to hold office hours in Modesto at least one day a week and travel to agency programs and sites as needed.

Compensation
