Assistant Store Manager

Ross Stores, Inc. is a leading off‑price retail chain with over 2,200 stores. We are seeking an Assistant Store Manager to help run daily operations and support our team.

General Purpose

Responsible for managing and supervising store operations, following company policies, and ensuring customer and associate standards are met. In the absence of the Store Manager, the Assistant Manager leads the entire operation.

Essential Functions General Operating Requirements
  • Lead best practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps.
  • Assist in analyzing store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and overall performance.
  • Communicate variances to the Store Manager.
  • Schedule associates to meet business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all state, local, and federal regulations.
  • Schedule and complete all associate cleaning tasks.
  • Accept special assignments as directed by Leadership.
  • Administer payroll, including daily punch edits, scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting.
Organizational Development
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, developing non‑exempt associates.
  • Ensure compliance with Ross personnel policies.
  • Address associate relations issues by communicating incidents to the Store Manager or District Manager.
Expense Control
  • Assist in monitoring expenditures to stay within budget.
  • Control payroll hours and adjust to business trends.
Maintaining a Safe & Secure Environment
  • Prioritize safety and practice safe behaviors.
  • Ensure associates understand and execute emergency procedures.
  • Maintain adherence to company safety policies.
  • Facilitate monthly safety meetings.
Customer Service
  • Treat customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
  • Show courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
  • Implement customer service and merchandise presentation programs.
  • Coach retail associates to provide efficient and friendly service.
Personal and Store Brand
  • Represent and support the company brand.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and dress code.
  • Ensure the store is clean and well organized.
Merchandise Processing and In‑Store Marketing
  • Ensure accurate recovery, sizing, and markdowns.
  • Present merchandise according to guidelines.
  • Manage merchandise processing to meet timelines.
Loss Prevention
  • Train associates on loss prevention and shortage goals.
  • Demonstrate integrity and protect confidential information.
  • Maintain strong customer service presence and loss prevention awareness.
  • Lead annual inventory process and enforce policies.
  • Control the public view monitor system.

Qualifications and Special Skills
  • Two or more years of store or assistant store manager experience in retail.
  • Ability to supervise, motivate, and communicate positively.
  • Multitasking, prioritization, and follow‑through.
  • Independently set priorities and use judgment.
  • Maintain high quality customer service.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Availability for evenings and weekends.
  • Basic math skills.
Physical Requirements / ADA
  • Use of store equipment (PDT, registers, PC).
  • Stand, walk, and move around the store entire shift.
  • Bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop as needed.
  • Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
  • Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders.
  • Other assignments may require additional skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Direct supervision of all non‑exempt associates.

Compensation

Base pay range is $20.40 to $26.42 per hour. Compensation varies by location and experience.
