Environmental Engineer, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Position Overview:
This position involves skilled technical work in the operation, monitoring, control, and maintenance of the Village’s wastewater treatment facility and lift stations. The Operator II ensures the effective and compliant performance of the treatment process in accordance with IEPA and NPDES permit standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Operate and maintain motors, pumps, blowers, valves, controls, and related equipment.
- Collect and analyze wastewater and effluent samples; adjust treatment processes based on data.
- Conduct routine inspections and perform preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical malfunctions.
- Utilize SCADA systems for process control, data logging, and reporting.
- Maintain operational and maintenance records in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Train and assist other operators; serve as lead operator during assigned shifts.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and operating procedures.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in wastewater treatment or mechanical/electrical maintenance.
- Class 1 Wastewater Facility Operator Certificate (IEPA).
- Valid Illinois driver’s license; will be required to obtain a Class B CDL with air breaks authorized within 12 months of employment.
- Ability to perform physical work in varying environmental conditions.
This position is part of the collective bargaining unit represented by The International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150, Public Employees Division. Compensation and benefits are contractual under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. Pursuant to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the starting step salary for this position is $99,201.00. The Village offers an outstanding benefits package including IMRF participation, and health, dental, and life insurance.
