Job DescriptionThe Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is a multi‑skilled professional who assumes a wide range of clinical and administrative roles in a physician office setting. Under physician supervision or the direction of a licensed nurse, the CMA provides direct and indirect patient care, performs laboratory and other testing, and may assist with clerical functions. The CMA is a key team player who interacts and communicates with patients and clinical staff in an ambulatory care environment.

- Provide accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers. Address questions and concerns promptly and direct them to the appropriate resources.
- Use effective service recovery skills to solve problems or service breakdowns.
- Demonstrate teamwork by helping co‑workers across departments, communicating effectively and respecting diverse opinions.
- Use organizational and unit resources efficiently.
- Manage work schedule, completing tasks and assignments on time.
- Contribute to continuous improvement opportunities and processes.
- Participate in efforts to reduce costs, streamline work processes, and improve services.
- Room patients and provide direct patient care under physician or RN/LPN supervision, including recording histories, medications, vital signs, and preparing patients for office procedures.
- Explain treatment procedures to patients and reinforce patient education on medication and special diets or testing.
- Administer injections and medications as directed by a physician.
- Perform point‑of‑care testing (venipuncture, urine dips, finger sticks, strep screens, flu screens, pregnancy tests, cultures) and other office procedures independently.
- Know the purpose, process, and results for frequently performed tests and lab specimens.
- Relays normal test results to patients or reads results from physician documentation; consult an RN, LPN, or physician if needed.
- Adhere to CDPG Environment of Care policies and maintain infection control standards, cleaning and disinfecting exam rooms and performing quality checks.
- Participate in shared governance, committee work, and practice/department projects.
- Identify and report medical/health care errors properly.
- Support co‑workers, mentor and train new staff, and act as an integral team member.
- Communicate appropriately and clearly with all staff, maintaining positive relationships within the office and ancillary departments.
- Handle situations in a mature and professional manner.
- Prioritize and re‑prioritize workflow and maintain an organized workspace.
- Engage in teamwork and team‑building activities.
- Meet documentation standards, providing timely, accurate, up‑to‑date, complete, and legible records.
- Charge for all ancillary services performed.
- Participate in ongoing educational activities and share knowledge with co‑workers.
- Show creativity and flexibility during change.
- Use medical record and practice management systems effectively, including documentation, order entry, results, referrals.
- Stay informed of system updates and implement them into daily work.
- Utilize online resources efficiently (Outlook, Corridors, Team Sites).
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Two or more years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant in a physician office setting or completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program.
- High School Diploma or equivalent with two or more years of experience as a Medical Assistant or completion of an accredited program.
