Our vision is that, through advice and campaigning, we help to create a fairer Flintshire where people are empowered, treated equally and have their rights respected. The Treasurer is a key role on our Board and we are therefore seeking a qualified accountant to join us.
What difference will you make?
In your role as Treasurer you will work closely with the Finance Officer (who is a qualified accountant) and CEO.
You will use your finance and accountancy skills to
- Lead at Board meetings on presenting and interpreting regular financial reports, annual accounts and making recommendations.
- Lead on the appointment of auditors and responding to changes in legislation.
This is a vital role, helping ensure we can continue our support for the local community. As Treasurer, you will have a real opportunity to offer your unique skill set to help the strategic progression of the charity.
As part of our board you will support and shape our work and strategic direction, as well as help us achieve our purpose to help everyone in society that needs us. We help people to resolve their problems by providing advice and information on a wide range of issues including benefits, debt & money, employment, discrimination, family, housing, immigration and health.
We also use evidence of individuals’ problems to campaign for improvements in law and services that affect everyone.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a person with the following competencies, skills/experience:
- Qualification in accountancy
- Experience of financial management in a medium/large business
- Experience of Data Analysis
- Experience in presenting financial information to a range of colleagues
- Charity and board experience desirable
Additionally, you will need to
- Be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection; understand and accept the responsibilities and liabilities as trustees;
- Be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own;
- Have good listening, verbal and written communication skills;
- Be able to exercise good independent judgement;
- Be ready to take a full and active role as a board member;
- Be willing to undertake training in your role.
What will you be doing?
Citizens Advice Flintshire (CAF) is a registered charity with our own board of trustees who are responsible for deciding how Citizens Advice Flintshire is run.
At CAF we are committed to providing high quality services to meet the advice needs of as many people as possible, especially those from the most disadvantaged communities, as well as campaigning for changes to laws that will positively affect everyone.
We are a trusted institution that people turn to in times of need and we are committed to making that as a charity, we are the best we can be!
We currently have an active board of ten Trustees and following the resignation of our Treasurer, we are seeking to fill this role.
During 2024/2025 CAF helped 7,438 people with over thirty thousand advice issues.
We’re proud of that achievement and know it was only possible because of the huge commitment shown by our staff, volunteers and trustees.
We're excited that you want to be part of our board to help us continue to grow and develop a range of advice services to meet the needs of our community.
