We use an evidence‑based curriculum to give parents ideas for new ways to interact with their kids to help them become calmer, connected caregivers, even during hard times.

Parent Educators Will
  • Manage a workload, including meeting with 13 families for 1-2 hours each, every week, to facilitate the Nurturing Families curriculum lessons.
  • Take responsibility for organizing their own time in a structured manner, with a high degree of accountability to their supervisor, clients, and team.
  • Maintain case records, submit required reports, provide statistical data, etc., in a timely and accurate manner. This can include 1-2 hours of paperwork daily.
  • Possess an eagerness to improve as a professional, including both engaging with continuing training and using feedback and conflict as opportunities to grow.
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with peers in the agency and community.
Requirements
  • Passion for helping people grow beyond past trauma, with strong empathy and a caring demeanor.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or education. Bethany values those with lived experience and encourages former foster youth, people in recovery, foster parents and/or parents who were in the child welfare system to apply.
  • The ability to provide own transportation in performing job requirements, including a valid driver’s license, acceptable insurance coverage and the ability to drive to client sessions throughout an eight (8) county service area.
  • Strong ability to manage conflict and hard conversations in a direct, respectful way within a team and with clients.
  • Sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences in the community, with an ability to explore parenting behavior with diverse families through a trauma‑informed lens, remaining non‑judgmental and caring while maintaining fidelity to the curriculum.
  • Successful completion of the criminal background investigation, clearance from the Illinois CANTS and Iowa Registry, and certification as a driver of children by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
  • The ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • The ability to maintain a flexible schedule in response to client-need, sometimes meeting with families during evening hours.
