Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant

This position is primarily responsible for the provision of specialized early childhood mental health consultative programming, to include, but not be limited to: educating, conducting clinical observations, and facilitating reflective meetings for Early Childhood Centers and Partner sites. This position will additionally be required to periodically (as needed) facilitate family and individual therapy sessions, conduct educational groups and programs, and provide overall information, intervention, and referral assistance to children age 0‑5 and their families who have been exposed to traumatic events and meet admission criteria for Safe from the Start.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitation of child trauma‑oriented Infant/Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation and Child Teacher Relationship Training services toward the enhancement of community Early Childhood Professional’s capacity to engage children through Trauma informed practices.
  • Assist the Program Director in recruiting and developing relationships with early childhood settings to provide consultation efforts.
  • Provides Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (IECMHC) using the Consultation and Teaming to Reimagine Teaching (CTRT) framework to strengthen classroom emotional climate, teacher–child relationships, and trauma‑informed practices.
  • Facilitates reflective consultation with educators and administrators to build reflective capacity, support co‑regulation, and identify strategies that promote children’s social‑emotional development within the CTRT model.
  • Conducts on‑site classroom observations, collaborates with teaching teams, and guides implementation of relationship‑based, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate supports aligned with CTRT goals.
  • Organize and facilitate professional trainings for early childhood settings, partnership sites, parent and community education groups on a variety of topics including but not limited to effects of exposure to violence and/or trauma on children age 0‑5, importance of early childhood mental health, and behavior management strategies.
  • Conduct trauma and violence prevention curriculums within school districts, early childhood education settings, daycare settings, and pre‑school programs.
  • Field referrals via phone, in‑person, or community contact to identify and serve children exposed to or a direct victim of violence in the home or community (as needed).
  • Facilitate family and/or individual therapy sessions including routine assessments and paperwork as supported through clinical supervision.
  • Coordinate and participate in community‑based multi‑disciplinary staffing for the child and family, providing overall case management and referral, when necessary.
  • Guarantee maintenance of contract/service partnership files, client files and accurate records of program related activities.
  • Remain cognizant of best practices, current developments and legislation in the violence field.
  • Participate in external committees as needed.
  • Assist in on‑going program planning, development, and evaluation.
  • Mandated reporter for child/elderly abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  • Participation in on‑going education and skill‑development.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as requested by Agency and/or Program Management.
  • Maintain all Every Child personnel forms (records, mileage, timesheets, reimbursements).
  • Attend all Every Child staff meetings.
  • Assist in general Every Child planning, public activities, and fundraising as appropriate.
  • Successfully complete 64 Hour Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Certification/ Training
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or related field.
  • Holds a current professional clinical licensure (LPC/ LCPC, LSW/LCSW, LMFT, or equivalent) or actively working toward clinical licensure.
  • Eligible to provide billable clinical services and meet insurance credentialing requirements.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain licensure requirements, including supervision, documentation, and continuing education.
  • Meets or able to work toward Illinois, Iowa and/or National IECMHC Endorsement criteria based on eligibility.
  • Therapeutic experience working with children exposed to trauma/ violence preferred.
  • Working knowledge of developmental skills of children 0‑5
  • Strong scheduling and organizational skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient use with computer programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Must be able to pass a background check, including criminal history, child abuse registry, sex offender registry and driving abstract.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and be able to provide own transportation for community‑oriented services along with local and regional training.
