SENIOR ACCOUNTANT – VIS MECHANICAL

Salary: $90,000 – $130,000 per year (based on experience)

VIS Mechanical is one of Vancouver Island’s fastest‑growing mechanical contractors, delivering high‑quality HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and commercial mechanical services across the region. With major projects underway and continued expansion on the horizon, we are seeking a strong Senior Accountant to bring structure, reliability, and expertise to our finance operations.
ABOUTTHE ROLE
The Senior Accountant will oversee day‑to‑day financial operations and play a key role in stabilizing and improving our accounting function. This position reports directly to ownership and works closely with our project managers, service teams, and leadership group. We’re looking for someone with broad accounting experience, strong technical skills, and ideally a background in construction, contracting, or project‑based accounting. This role is ideal for someone who can step into a fast‑moving environment, build process clarity, and provide accurate, dependable financial support for decision‑making as VIS continues to scale.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Financial Operations & Reporting
- Oversee the full accounting cycle (AR, AP, GL, month‑end, and year‑end tasks).
- Prepare monthly financial statements, job‑level reporting, and summary dashboards for ownership.
- Manage cash flow, forecasting, and budgeting.
- Construction & Job Costing
- Maintain job costing and project financial tracking (labour, materials, subtrades, equipment).
- Support project managers with financial data, cost‑to‑complete reporting, and billing accuracy.
- Monitor change orders, progress billing, holdbacks, and contract payment schedules.
- Process, Systems & Controls
- Strengthen and document financial processes, workflows, and internal controls.
- Support improvements in accounting systems and integration with operational tools (Jobber/Quick Books Online).
- Ensure timely, accurate payroll data is processed (may coordinate with external/payroll teams).
- Leadership & Collaboration
- Work closely with owners and senior leadership on financial strategy and operational decision‑making.
- Provide guidance to junior accounting/admin staff as required.
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and banking partners.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience in construction, mechanical contracting, or project‑based accounting is a strong asset.
- Knowledge of job costing, progress billing, and contract accounting principles.
- Proficiency with Quick Books Online; experience with tools like Jobber, Service Titan, Sage, Procore, or Viewpoint is an asset.
- Strong Excel/financial analysis skills.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to build structure in a fast‑paced environment.
- CPA designation or working toward CPA is an asset but not required.
